Saffron
Hugely expensive, saffron needs to be used with care. Fortunately a few threads go a long way. Saffron will color any food it is added to – well – saffron I suppose. It adds an indefinable earthy flavor to food, not all that dissimilar to truffles. To use it, take a small pinch of threads and soak them in a tablespoon of warm water for 5 to 10 minutes. Add the resulting liquid and the threads to your main ingredients.
